Medina tops Lyndonville in faculty contest

Jumping out to a 16-0 lead at the outset, Medina went on to defeat host Lyndonville 64-42 this evening in the second annual Faculty Basketball Classic.

Tom Forrestel scored 8 quick points and Eric Valley 4 to spark the surge in the opening quarter which finished  with Medina up 16-3.

Getting two threes from Lee Dillenbeck and one each from Joe Suhr and Jim O’Connor, Lyndonville did rally back to within one, 16-15, early in the second period but would get no closer.

Medina answered with a 14-6 run to close the period, including 4 each by PJ Bell and Jon Sherman, to move back out to a 9 point, 30-21, lead at the half.

Keeping the momentum, Medina then put a lock on the win by outscoring Lyndonville 21-8 in the third period to extend the advantage to 22, 51-29, at the three-quarter make.

Lucas Evans and Jess Mankowski each scored 6 and Forrestel 4 to lead that Medina uprising.

Forrestel finished with 14, Bell 13, Mankowski 12, Evans 10, Sherman 8, Valley 6 and Chris Hughes 1 as Medina made it two wins in a row in the young series.

Shane Phillips scored 18, Dillenbeck 14, Suhr 5, O’Connor 3 and Brad Hoffee 2 for Lyndonville whose lineup also included Jeff Kingsbury, Todd Wolford and Joe Moore.

Proceeds from the contest will go to benefit the Lyndonville Sports Boosters Camp Scholarship Program.
