In a key midseason clash of unbeatens, Medina bested host Carlton 8-3 Tussday evening to take over sole possession of first place in the U12 Division of the Orleans County Short Season Baseball League.

Carlton, which is now 3-1, jumped out to a quick 3-0 first inning lead ignited by a lead-off single by Noah Kowalski.

However, Medina got right back in the game by scoring twice in the second inning on an RBI single by Lathan McEwen-Miller and a fielders choice play off the bat of Breydin Lewis.

Medina, which improves to 5-0,  then rallied into the lead by scoring twice in the third inning on an RBI triple by Ryan Pegelow and a fielders choice play off the bat of Tim Vasquez.

An RBI single by Joe Reese made it 5-3 in the fourth frame and Medina then broke the contest open with three more in the fifth on an RBI single by Aleks Seefeldt and  a two run triple by Thomas Miesch.

A trio of pitchers combined to earn the win on the mound as Seefeldt struck out five over the first two innings, Hadrian Batista fanned six over the next three frames and Carlos Doval struck out two in the final inning.

Medina next travels to Elba and Carlton visits Sandstone at 6 p.m. Thursday.
