Medina defeated host Akron 4-3 today in the 7th annual Ty Gabbey Memorial Alumni Baseballl Game. The game was established as a fundraiser for the Ty Gabbey Memorial scholarship. Gabbey was a former Akron High School student and baseball player who passed away tragically in a car accident in 2009 at the age of 18. This marked the second year Medina participated, with Akron winning last year’s game by one run. Players from the two teams are shown here. Medina jumped out to a lead in the first inning after Lucas Evans singled and was then driven in by Zach Baldwiin. In the top of the third inning Medina then added 3 runs to the lead. Jake Cotriss and Evans singled, while Adam Hoot was hit by a pitch to load the bases. The runs were then driven in by Hayden Allis and PJ Bell. Akron answered back with 3 runs of their own in the bottom of the third after a three run triple by Connor Riggs. Hoot then came on to pitch the final two innings and worked the save. He struck out 6 and allowed no hits. Evans finished with 3 hits on the day, while Kyle Herman had 2.
