Mustangs will host Panthers on Tuesday in Section VI Class D lacrosse playoff opener

Photo by Cheryl Wertman – Bobby Geiger and his Medina teammates will host Newfane on Tuesday in the quarterfinal round of the Section VI Class D lacrosse playoffs.

No. 4 seed Medina will host No. 5  Newfane in the quarterfinal round of the Section VI Class D lacrosse playoffs at 4:45 p.m. Tuesday.

The meeting will be the initial one in lacrosse between the Mustangs and Panthers which are in their first year of varsity competition after playing several years at the club level.

The Mustangs went 4-4 in the Class D Division and 6-10 overall this season while the Panthers played an independent schedule.

The winner will visit top seeded Salamanca on Thursday in the semifinals.

Tuesday’s other quarterfinal will have No. 6 Gowanda at No. 3 Eden with the victor traveling to No. 2  Akron on Thurday.

Christian Silversmith leads Medina in scoring with 36 goals as Mitchell Silversmith has 19, Tommy Vasquez 17 and Chaise Prest 14.

The final week of the regular season will get off to a busy start on Monday.

In softball, Lyndonville will host Kendall in a doubleheader beginning at 4:30 p.m. and Medina will visit Akron and Albion will travel to Newfane at 4:45 p.m..

In baseball, Barker faces  Newfane, Roy-Hart travels to Wilson and Lyndonville takes on Elba at GCC.
