Medina to host Barker in N-O diamond opener

A senior laden Barker squad will take on an underclassmen dominated Medina team in the Niagara-Orleans League baseball opener at Vets Park at 7 p.m. Monday.

Senior pitcher Eddie Wasnock, who earned first team N-O All-League and All-State honors least spring, heads Barker’s veteran squad which includes 11 seniors. That group also includes senior catcher Devon Mangan, a three year starter, senior pitcher/second baseman Ryan Voss and junior pitcher/outfielder Collin Webb.

Medina’s youthful squad includes 5 juniors, 1 sophomore, 3 freshmen, 1 eighth grader and 1 seventh grader.

Defending champion Roy-Hart will open its N-O title defense by visiting Barker on Wednesday.  The Rams veteran laden squad includes pitchers Cameron Meadows, a senior, Charlie Bruning, a sophomore, Ben Schwab, a junior, Jacob Bruning, a junior, and Eric Fitch, a senior.

Albion likewise opens N-O competition on the road on Wedneday at Akron.

N-O softball competition begins on Monday as Albion hosts Newfane at 4:45 p.m. The Purple Eagles will then host defending champion Akron on Wednesday while Roy-Hart will entertain  Barker and Newfane visits rival Wilson.

N-O tennis competition begins at 4:30 p.m. Monday with a big match as defending champ Medina visits Albion, which finished in the runner-up spot last spring.  Roy-Hart will visit Newfane and Akron will host Wilson in the other openers.

The undefeated (2-0, 3-0) Medina lacrosse team hosts a pair of key Class D Division games facing Silver Creek on Wednesday and Akron on Friday.
