A large field of 16 teams is scheduled to compete in Medina’s annual Gary Gross Memorial Wrestling Tournament on Saturday beginning at 9 a.m.

The tournament honors the memory of Medina Coach Eric Gross’ father, Gary, who was a long time supporter and booster of the Mustangs wrestling program.

Headlining the tournament lineup will be perennial Section V wrestling powers Hilton, which is coached by Eric Gross’ brother Craig, and Spencerport along with Chautauqua Lake which is currently ranked No. 1 in Section VI among small schools.

Also joining the host Mustangs in the tournament field will be all of the local wrestling squads including Albion, Lyndonville, Holley-Kendall and Roy-Hart/Barker along with Akron, Byron-Bergen, Bloomfield, Canisius, Canisteo-Greenwood, Grand Island, Greece and St. Mary’s of Lancaster.

“It is nice to have Hilton, who my brother coaches that is regularly a top team in Section V and Spencerport, which is another storied section V program attending,” said Eric Gross. “As well as many other schools like Chautauqua Lake, and many talented local wrestlers.”
