Medina sweeps twin bill to gain share of Midget ‘A’ regular season title

Lockport 1 tops Lyndonville

Medina swept to a doubleheader victory over Lockport 2 by scores of 7-0 and 10-3 this evening at Vets Park to gain a share of the Lockport Midget ‘A’ League regular season title with Lyndonville which dropped a 12-7 decision at Lockport 1.

Medina and Lyndonville finish the regular season with identical 10-5 records. Medina will enter the league playoffs as the No. 1 seed having taken two out of three regular season meetings from Lyndonville.

In the other regular season finale, Roy-Hart defeated Akron 12-3 to finish the season at 8-7, a game behind third place Lockport 1 (9-6).

Matt Riemer hurled a one hit shutout with four strikeouts for Medina in the opener.

Medina grabbed a 2-0 lead in the third inning on a two-run single by Jason Hellwig.

Medina then broke the contest open with five runs in the fourth inning as Devonte Howard, Jared Zinkievich and Tyler Ames all had hits.

Hellwig and Ames both had two hits in the game.

Hellwig then hurled a two hitter with six strikeouts in the second game.

Medina broke that one open early erupting for six runs in the first inning on six walks.

A triple by Connor Barleben then ignited a two run second inning and Matt Riemer singled in two more runs in the third. Barleben had two hits in the contest.

Lockport 1 12, Lyndonville 7

A late rally fell short as Lyndonville lost 12-7 at Lockport 1.

Trailing 9-2, Lyndonville rallied for five runs in the sixth inning highlighted by a two-run single by Evan Milleville and an RBI single by Aaron Burnside. Singles by Chris Scroger, Brandon Schoolcraft and Jacob Hoffee ignited the rally. However, Lyndonville left the bases loaded and could get no closer.

Milleville, Scroger, Schoolcraft, Hoffee, Michael Wells and Ty Hrovat all had two hits on the night for Lyndonville.

Roy-Hart 12, Akron 3

Leading by a narrow 4-2 margin, Roy-Hart scored four times in both the fifth and sixth innings to lock up the win over Akron.

A two-run double by CJ Fitch keyed the fifth inning uprising.

Brandon Walters and Nick Morse both had two hits for Roy-Hart.
