Staying in the thick of the title chase, Medina scored a doubleheader victory over Somerset by scores of 13-3 and 3-2 Friday night at Vets Park to improve to 6-3 in Lockport Midget ‘B’ League action.

The opener was the completion of a rain suspended game from earlier in the season. Medina had built up a 6-0 lead before the rains came by scoring five runs in the second inn in highlighted by hits by Brett Riemer, Tyler Howard and Hunter Sturtevant.

When play resumed Friday, Medina put a lock on the win by erupting for seven runs in the sixth inning ignited by hits by Brad McPherson and Jared Zinkievich.

Howard had a total of three hits as Zinkievich and winning pitcher Justin Morgan both added two.

In the second game, Medina had to rally from a 2-1 deficit by scoring twice with two out in the bottom of the seventh inning on an error to complete the sweep. A walk and a single by McPherson helped set up that rally.

Medina’s only other run came on a solo home run by Riemer in the sixth inning.

Tyler Ames went the distance on the mound for Median allowing only three hits and striking out six. Two of those hits came in the first inning when Somerset scored its only two runs.
