Medina Stallions down Holley Hawks in youth football season opener

Building up a three touchdown half-time advantage, the Medina Stallions went on to defeat the host Holley Hawks 33-15 this afternoon in a Niagara Orleans Football Association (NOFA) Varsity Division season opener.

The Stallions jumped out to a quick 12-0 first quarter lead as Bobby Geiger returned a pass interception for the first touchdown and Nick Davis-Kepner ran 30 yards for the second score.

The Hawks did cut the deficit to 12-7 early in the second quarter on a 25 yard touchdown run by Erik Balys who also added the extra point carry.

However, the Stallions got that one right back as Vincent Montague returned the ensuing kickoff 65 yards for a touchdown He also added the extra point carry to up the lead to 19-7.

The Medina advantage jumped to 26-7 before halftime when Montague ran 15 yards for a touchdown off a screen pass from quarterback Christian Silversmith and Colby Petrie added the extra point.

Medina’s only touchdown of the second half came in the fourth quarter when Montague ran 29 yards for the score off a lateral pass from Silversmith. Ricky Pitts added the extra point to make it 33-7.

Holley scored late in the final quarter on a 32 yard touchdown pass from quarterback Jason Salnato to Matt Wilson. Salnato then passed to Dustin Wilston for the two point conversion.

The Medina vs. Holley Mini and JV division contests were both played as scrimmages.

Medina next hosts Oakfield/Elba and Holley entertains Attica next Saturday.
