Medina spikers to host Newfane in semis

A familiar foe will provide the opposition as Medina hosts Newfane at 6 p.m. Monday in the semifinal round of the Section VI Class B-2 volleyball playoffs.

The Mustangs defeated the Lady Panthers twice during the Niagara-Orleans League season, both in four set matches.

Medina, which is seeded No. 2, advanced by downing No.7 Dunkirk 25-4, 25-21, 27-25 in the quarterfinals while No. 6 Newfane upended No. 3 Tonawanda in five sets.

The Mustangs lineup has included seniors Grace Masse, Alyssa Beyer and Faith Henning, juniors Je’ne Brown and Maddie Williams along with sophomores Elle Gross and Camri King.

Monday’s other B-2 semifinal will have No. 4 Springville vs. No. 1 Alden.

The semifinal winners will meet in the title match on Wednesday at Daemen College..

Monday’s Class C-1 semifinals will have No. 4 Wilson at No. 1 Akron and No. 6 Roy-Hart at No. 2 Eden.

In the quarterfinals, Roy-Hart defeated Olmsted, Wilson bested Gowanda, Akron topped Southwestern and Eden ousted JFK. All were decided in three sets except the Wilson match which went four.
