Medina spikers rally past Akron

A narrow come-from-behind win in the opening set sparked Medina to a 25-23, 25-10, 25-15 victory over visiting Akron this evening in a Niagara-Orleans League volleyball match.

Medina rallied from deficits of 14-8 and 18-14 to take the opening set.

Hailey Jakubowski served up points 9-14 to ignite the Mustangs rally. Two spike kills by Jenna Carpenter and one by Nicole Blount helped keep Medina within three at 22-19.

Jade Kenyon then helped to polish off the decisive rally by serving up points 21-24, a run which featured two aces, as the Mustangs gained the set winner on a side out.

Kenyon, who had a total of eight aces on the evening, also had key runs of six straight service points in both the second and third sets.

Cassie Sargent served up an ace for the third set and match winning point.

Blount had a total of six kills, Brittany Schultz 3 and Brittany Button 2 while Jakubowski had 3 aces.

Medina regains the .500 mark at 4-4 with the victory while Akron slips to 1-7.

In a Genesee Region League match, Wheatland-Chili defeated visiting Lyndonville 25-19, 25-20, 25-16.
