LYNDONVILLE – An overtime win in the second set and a long run of service points in the third highlighted Medina’s 25-19, 26-24, 25-16 victory over Lyndonville this evening in a non league volleyball match.

Medina jumped out to a 21-15 lead in the second set as Emily Kams served up points 5-7 on three straight aces, Jenna Carpenter 8-9 (one ace), Hailey Jakubowski 11-14 (two aces), Molley Gross 16-17 (one ace) and Brittany Button 20-21 (two aces).

Lyndonville though battled back into a 24-24 tie as Morgan Hungerford scored points 17-18 and Abigail Feldman 22-24.

However, Medina weathered the storm and claimed the overtime 26-24 victory as Nicole Blount registered a spike kill for the set winner.

Keeping the hot hand, Blount then put together a marathon run of 11 straight service points, including four aces, to vault Medina out to a commanding 12-1 lead in the third set.

A four point run of service points (10-13) by Cierra Riley did pull Lyndonville back to within 19-13 but the Lady Tigers could get no closer.

Jakubowski served up the final two points to close out the set and the match for the Mustangs registering an ace for the clincher.

Blount had a total of six aces and Jakubowski five. Carpenter had three kills and Blount two.

Hungerford had six blocks, five aces and two kills and Riley four kills for Lyndonville.

Medina next hosts rival Albion on Wednesday (JV match at 5 p.m.) in a special Pink vs. Teal event to benefit cancer research.
