Medina spikers bow in tourney semifinals

Medina got an early start to the volleyball season today by competing in the Gates-Chili Tournament bowing in the Silver bracket semifinals.

Medina defeated Greece Athena 25-19 in the quarterfinals but lost to Rush-Henrietta 25-21 in the semis.

In pool play to open the tourney, Medina lost to Gates-Chili 25-12, 25-12 and to Aquinas 25-22, 25-17 but split with Greece Athena 25-21, 20-25.

Maddie Williams had 15 spiking kills and Je’ne Brown 10 to lead Medina at the net.

Kharis Johnson had 5 aces, Williams 4 and Camri King, Grace Masse and Elle Gross 3 each to pace the Mustangs at the service line.

Masse also had 15 assists and Alyssa Beyer 8 digs.

Medina next hosts Byron-Bergen on August 31 in a non league match.
