A pair of goals in the final three minutes of the second half proved to be all of the scoring as Medina and Roy-Hart battled to a 1-1 double overtime tie this morning in a Niagara-Orleans League girls soccer game at Vets Park.

Roy-Hart took a 1-0 lead on a penalty kick goal by Emma Lindke with 2:49 remaining in regulation time.

However, Medina answered right back with a goal by Allison Bensley, off a corner by Martha Gardner, with 1:27 to go to send the contest into overtime.

Neither team could find the net in the two 10 minute overtime periods.

Medina goalie Emma Gardner made one big diving save in the first overtime and Mustangs defender Ashlee Howell came back to make another big stop in that period to keep the contest knotted.

Roy-Hart is now 4-3-1 and Medina 2-4-2 in N-O action.

In this morning’s other N-O games, front-running Wilson (8-0) defeated host Akron (4-3-1) 3-1 and runner-up Newfane (7-1) bested CSAT (0-8) 13-0.

Breaking away from a 1-1 half-time deadlock, Wilson claimed the victory on second half goals by Kayla Neumann and Aidan McGill.

Emily Patterson scored in the first half for Wilson as did Kara Sequin for Akron.

Allison Duhow netted 3 goals and Caelen Swogier 2 to lead the scoring parade for Newfane.
