Medina, Roy-Hart bow in field hockey

Newfane blanked visiting Medina 8-0 and Akron shut out visiting Roy-Hart 7-0 this afternoon in Niagara-Orleans League field hockey action.

Front-running Barker stayed perfect at 9-0 by blanking visiting Wilson 3-0 in the other contest.

Newfane jumped out to a commanding 5-0 first half lead over Medina as five different players scored goals including Lydia Gaughren, Brenna Sheehan, Mallory Buzyiniski, Morgan Bedford and Noa Watkin.

Bedford completed her hat-trick by adding two more goals in the second half and Leah Goad tallied once.

Newfane improves to 4-6 and Medina slips to 2-8.

Claudia Stone had two goals and two assists to head the Akron attack which also included two goals each by Molly Jennings and Dakota Earle and one by Sarah Schultz.

Akron is now 6-3 and Roy-Hart 0-10.

Leading by a narrow 1-0 margin, Barker got a goal from Melissa Grosshans three minutes into the second half to pull away from Wilson.

Erin Greenwald later added an insurance foal for the Lady Raiders.

Gabby Clare scored Barker’s first half goal.

The loss drops Wilson to 4-5.
