Medina wins to earn share of N-O softball title

Scoring in every inning but one, Medina rolled to a 16-0 victory over host Barker this afternoon to claim a one-third share of the Niagara-Orleans League softball championships.

Ending a 12 year title drought, Medina finishes the N-O campaign as tri-champions with Akron and Roy-Hart, all at 9-3.

Emily Kams hurled a two hit shutout with 13 strikeouts to lead Medina in the circle. She also had a big day at the plate banging out 3 hits including a two-run single in the first inning and a two-run home run in the fifth.

Alisha Scroger and Ashlee Howell led the Mustangs 18 hit attack with 4 base raps each.

Howell’s hits included a two-run triple, which highlighted a 5 run second inning, and Scroger’s a two-run double in the third and an RBI triple in the seventh. Nicole Cooper also had a two-run single in the sixth inning.

Lyndonville 10, Wheatland-Chili 3
Alecia Hinkson had 3 hits and Aubrey Lewis, Bri Paniccia and Miranda Lembcke 2 each to lead Lyndonville to a 10-3 Genesee Region League win over Wheatland-Chili at Holley.

Hinkson had a two-run single and Lembcke an RBI suicide squeeze in the third inning for Lyndonville.

The Lady Tigers also scored three times in the fourth on RBI singles by Lembcke, Paniccia and Hinkson as a triple by Lewis ignited the uprising.

Lyndonville is now 11-2 in the league.

Holley 12, Wheatland-Chili 11
Winning pitcher Kassie Norman had 4 hits, Maddie Papaj and Maddie Marsh 3 and Jocelyn Chilton 2 to lead Holley past visiting Wheatland-Chili 12-11 in a G-R game.

Albion to open sectionals at home

Seeded No. 8, Albion will host No. 9 East Aurora at 4:45 p.m. Tuesday in the opening round of the Section VI Class B1 softball tournament. The winner will then visit top seeded Depew on Thursday.

In Class B2 quarterfinal games at 4:45 p.m. Thursday No. 3 Medina will face No. 6 Southwestern at Albion and No. 4 Roy-Hart will host No. 5 Akron.
