Contributed Photo – Medina’s Jason Hellwig (12), who helped lead the North squad to a win at Tuesday’s National Underclassmen All-American game, meets here with Damien Dozier, a 3-star commit to Marshall University, from Virginia Episcopal High. Dozier is the son of former Buffalo Bills linebacker Damien Covington and was born in Buffalo.

Medina High senior quarterback Jason Hellwig helped lead the North squad to a 9-0 victory at the National Underclassmen All-American game Tuesday night at Myrtle Beach, S.C.

Hellwig completed 6 of 10 passes for 85 yards and had a 1 yard touchdown run in the first quarter, the only TD of the game.

Selected as one of the four North team captains, Hellwig had the most completions and most yards of the six quarterbacks on either team.

This was the first win for the North squad after three straight losses.

“We’re pretty proud of Jason, and it was a fun night,” said his dad Eric Hellwig. “We had 21 other family members down here with us, so he really put on a show.”
