Medina posts key field hockey win over Barker

Avenging an early season 3-1 loss, Medina downed Barker 6-1 at Vets Park this evening to move into a tie for second place in the Niagara-Orleans League field hockey standings.
Iyla Lilleby scored 3 goals, Penelope Schalck 2 and Emi Batista 1 for Medina which grabs a share of second place with Barker at 8-3 with one game remaining.
Medina will visit Wilson and Barker will host Roy-Hart Wednesday in the league finales.
Medina grabbed a quick 1-0 lead when Schalck scored just three minutes in.
Barker rallied into a tie late in the quarter on a goal by Addison Szafranski but could not score again against Medina goalie Arianna Bloom and her Mustang defensive teammates.
The Mustangs regained the lead for good just 30 seconds into the second quarter on a goal by Lilleby.
Schalck tacked on a penalty stroke goal late in the quarter to give the Mustangs a 3-1 lead at the half.
The Mustangs then locked up the victory by scoring three unanswered goals in the second half. Lilleby scored in both the third and fourth quarters and Batista in the fourth.

In the other games, defending champion Akron locked up outright possession of the N-O title with a 5-0 win over Newfane to improve to 11-0 as Olivia McClaine scored 3 goals and Madigan Regan and Kayla Cebulski 1 each.
Roy-Hart improved to 5-6 with a 7-0 win over Kenmore as Cayla Burch scored 2 goals and Ava Achtyl, Brooke Zglinicki, Adella Dukes, Alayna Kowalski and Savannah Newton each had 1.

Volleyball
Newfane 14-25, 12-25, 25-19, 25-17, 15-10.
Lyndonville dropped a narrow five set decision to host Newfane in a non league volleyball match this evening.
The host Lady Panthers rallied from a two set deficit to claim the win.
Madison Davis had 6 aces, 2 kills and 2 blocks; Ashlee Stephens 4 kills, 10 digs, 12 assists and 4 blocks; Katelynn Breeze 7 kills, 2 aces and 7 digs; Jackie Mack 11 kills, 8 digs and 3 blocks and Ava Austin 5 aces and 4 digs for Lyndonville.
