Mustangs begin title defense with win

Medina/Lyndonville opened defense of its Niagara-Orleans League boys soccer title with a 5-1 victory at CSAT this afternoon.

The Mustangs jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first half as Vassilios Bitsas scored from Brian Anderson, Nick Hinkson from Kristian Snyder and Zach Laird from Anderson.

Bitsas also scored in the second half from Anderson who then rounded out the scoring with a tally himself off an assist from Zach Harris.

“We got off to a quick start and played very well,” said Coach Steve Luksch.

Medina/Lyndonville next hosts Albion at 4 p.m. Friday at Vets Park.

Albion dropped a 6-1 decision at Newfane as Kendyll Hadick netted the Purple Eagles lone goal off an assist from Hayden Peccoraro.

Chad Gilson scored in the opening minute for Newfane which led 5-0 at the half.

In the other N-O opener, Wilson blanked Akron 4-0 as Cody Secore had the three goal hat-trick.
