Medina opens County League with two wins

Medina opened the Orleans County Short Season Baseball League’s 12U Division this past week with a pair of wins 11-5 over Elba and 12-4 over Rotary.

Medina scored five times in both the fourth and fifth innings to key the win over Elba. Joe Reese, Ryan Pegelow, Carlos Doval and Tom Vasquez each scored in both innings. Doval also registered 7 strikeouts on the mount.

A triple play from Pegelow to Lex Gray to Lathan Miller highlighted Medina’s win over Rotary. Offensively, Aleks Seefeldt had a big bases loaded double.

Elba gained a split on the week by downing Sandstone 11-5 as Mike Caparco had a grand slam home run and a two-run double and Rogan Fuller 2 hits with 3 RBI.

For Sandstone, Brayden Ryder had a two-run single and Omer Fugate notched 5 strikeouts.

Carlton also edged past Sandstone 6-4 by rallying for three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning on an RBI single by Jo Joe Allport and a two-run single by Drew Boyce who had a total of three hits. Gavin Boyce also had two hits including a home run.

Josh Showberlein had a two-run single and Ryder two hits for Sandstone as Elliott Trapiss registered 10 strikeouts on the mound.

U12 Division action resumes on Tuesday with Carlton vs. Rotary at the Midget League Field, St. Mary’s/Barre at Elba and Medina at Sandstone all at 6 p.m.

The division will also play on Thursday with St. Mary’s/Barre at Medina, Carlton at Elba and Sandstone vs. Rotary at the Midget League Field.

The league’s 10U Division will play at 6 p.m. Monday with Medina Blue vs. Rotary/St. Mary’s at Midget League Field, Sandstone at Carlton and Elba at Medina Red.  Then on Wednesday it will be Rotary/St. Mary’s at Elba, Medina Blue at Sandstone and Carlton at Barre.
