Medina nips Wilson in N-O softball
Closing out the league season on a high note, Medina edged past Wilson 6-5 this afternoon in the Niagara-Orleans softball finale at Vets Park.
Breaking away from a 5-5 deadlock, Medina scored what proved to be the game winning run in the bottom of the sixth inning on an error.
The Mustangs then turned back a big Wilson scoring threat in the top of the seventh to preserve the win.
Medina pitcher Emily Kams got the first out at home as she fielded a grounder and threw to catcher Davina Birch.
The Mustangs quickly got the second out on a grounder to Alisha Scroger at shortstop.
Kams then registered a clutch strikeout for the final out as Wilson left a runner stranded at third.
Wilson jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning as Adrianna Bryer and Rebekah Blasius had hits.
However, Medina answered right back with three runs in the home half of the frame as Destiny Satkowski, Scroger, Emma Ambrose and Courtney Bailey all banged out base hits.
Scroger also had a hit during a two-run second inning scoring burst which upped the Mustangs lead to 5-2.
Wilson though battled back into a 5-5 tie by scoring two runs in the third inning and one in the fifth.
Medina finished the N-O season at 5-9 and Wilson at 7-7. The Mustangs went 4-3 over the second half of the league campaign after a slow 1-6 start.
Wilson defeated Medina 15-8 in the JV game. Brandi Guild had a home run, Alyssa Beyer a triple and Hannah Hamilton a double for Medina.

Erika Moeller hurled a 2 hitter with 14 strikeouts to lead Barker to a 10-2 non league win over host CCA.
Mary Rounds had 3 hits, including a pair of doubles, for Barker as Kylie Miller and Chelsea Stratton each had 2 hits.
