Medina pushed across a run in the bottom of the eighth inning to nip CSAT 2-1 at Vets Park this afternoon and maintain a one game lead atop the Niagara-Orleans League baseball standings.

Winning pitcher Jason Hellwig reached on a walk, stole second and came home with the winning run on a single by Kyle Herman who had 2 hits on the day.

The Mustangs defensive unit shut down a CSAT threat in the top of the eighth on a double play from right fielder Brennan Zinkievich to catcher Justin Morgan.

The victory boosts Medina’s N-O record to 8-2 while CSAT slips to 6-4.

Medina’s only other run came in the fifth on an RBI single by Lawson Fenton. A single by Matt Riemer set up the opportunity.

CSAT tied the game at 1-1 in the sixth inning with a run off an error.

Hellwig went the distance on the mound allowing only 2 hits and striking out 8.
