Medina netters regain share of N-O lead as Barker tops Albion

Defending champion Medina used the combination of a 4 1/2-1 victory at Wilson with Barker’s 3-2 1/2 win over Albion to regain a share of the Niagara-Orleans League tennis league.

Medina and Albion are now tied for first place at 8-2 while Barker is still in the title chase at 6-3.

Medina was led by wins at first singles by Kristian Snyder 6-1, 6-0 over Dominic Curcione and at third singles by Brian Bogan 6-1, 4-6, 6-2 over Alex Keil.

The Mustangs also swept the three doubles matches. Nick Dieter and Michael Cardone defeated Joe Hecko and Kyle Lyon 6-2, 6-2 at first doubles. Carson Zgoda and Xion Baes downed Sean Pazik and Kierson Skobjak 6-0, 6-1 at second. Tom Horgan and Nick Bogan bested Brianne Hain and Kasey Neumann 6-0 6-2 at third.

Wilson, which slips to 4-4, took the second singles as Gabriel Curcione downed Tristan Sanders 7-5, 7-5.

A sweep of the three singles matches earned Barker the victory over Albion as Sean Benoit defeated Dyer Benjovsky 6-2, 6-4; Tristan Payne downed Josh Metzler 6-3, 6-3 and Brian Hefferon topped Dan Beam 6-0, 6-4.

Albion took the three doubles matches. Monica Benjovsky and Kyler McQuillan defeated Erik Herian and Emma Duffy 6-1, 6-0 at first doubles. Cristal Quintana and Michael Stilwell outlasted Nick Fazzolari and Lucy Bautista 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 at second doubles. Dylan Bader and Matt Kovaleski downed Patricia Bautista and Casey A’Heran 6-0, 6-1 at third.

Akron 3, Roy-Hart 2 1/2

Moving back above the .500 mark at 5-4, Akron bested Roy-Hart (0-9) 3-2 1/2 led by victories at second singles by Ryan Meek and at third singles by Nathan Chubb.

The Tigers also got a win from the second doubles team of Cierra Janis and Jacob Meyer.

Roy-Hart’s Valeria Sillar won at first singles.

The Rams also got wins from the first doubles team of Denzel Flowers – Kelsey Eldridge and by the third doubles duo of Tim Moriarity – Jamie Swick.

Holley 5, Pembroke 0

Holley blanked Pembroke 5-0 this afternoon in a Genesee Region League tennis match led by straight set wins by the singles trio of Brady Smith, Ian Penders and Jon Rusin.

The Hawks also got wins from the doubles teams of Hunter DeFelice – Ben Scott and Andrew Spychalski – Diana Yaroshuhuk.
