Medina netters nip Albion to finish 12-0

Photos by Cheryl Wertman – Albion’s duo of Owen Foos and Emilie Barleben scored a three set win at first doubles today during the Purple Eagles loss to host Medina.

Medina edged past visiting rival Albion 3-2 1/2 this afternoon to compete a perfect 12-0 Niagara-Orleans League championship tennis season.

Nick Bogan earned the deciding point for Medina with a tight three set 7-5, 4-6, 7-5 win over Victor Benjovsky at third singles.

Kristian Snyder won in straight sets at first singles for Medina.

The Mustangs also got a close 6-1, 7-6 win by the second doubles team of Toby Kiebala and Brandon Harris over Donato Rosario and Freeman Lattin.

Kristian Snyder earned Medina’s first point with a 6-0, 6-0 win at first singles over Mathew Kovaleski.

Albion kept the match tight as Connor McQuillan scored a three set 2-6, 6-4, 6-3 win at second singles over Mike Cardone and the Purple Eagles first doubles team of Owen Foos and Emilie Barleben posted a 6-0, 6-3 win over Kyla Leno and Andrew Fuller.

The Purple Eagles also took the third doubles match as Kastriot Bela and Juan Santiago downed Haylee Seefeldt and Jacob Houseman 6-1, 6-2.

The N-O title is the fifth in the last six years for Coach Chris Horgan’s Mustangs.

Albion finishes the N-O season at 8-4.

Final Standings: Medina 12-0, Akron 9-3, Albion 8-4, Wilson 7-5, Barker 3-9, Roy-Hart 3-9, Newfane 0-12

Section V Class C
East Rochester defeated Holley 4-1 in the semifinals of the Section V Class C Tournament.

Holley’s lone point was earned by the second doubles team of Dalton Thurley and Steve Morgan.

In another semifinal, Kendall defeated Prattsburg-Hammondsport 3-2 as Collin Lewis and James Longrod scored victories at the first two singles spots as did the Eagles second doubles team of Ryan Barrett-Jenna LoSapio.
