Medina nets win over Albion in N-O opener
Defending champion Medina edged past visiting rival Albion 3 1/2-2 this afternoon in the Niagara-Orleans League tennis opener.
Medina swept the three doubles matches as Andrew Houseman and Kody Leno edged Nate Smith and Chase Froman 7-6, 7-6; Haylee Seefeldt and Mark Barcena defeated Hailey Bader and Carson Bader 6-4, 6-2 and Jacob Houseman and Sophia Cardone bested Josh Riley and Matt Rowcliff 6-2, 6-1.
The Mustangs also took the third singles match as Toby Kiebala downed Elliot Neidert 6-3, 6-1.
Albion scored come-from-behind wins in the first two singles matches. Matthew Kovaleski rallied past Andrew Fuller 4-6, 7-5, 6-2 at first singles and Victor Benjovsky likewise rallied past Ray Paull 2-6, 6-3, 6-0 at second singles.
Roy-Hart 4 1/2, Newfane 1
Roy-Hart bested visiting Newfane 41/2-1 as wins by Patrick Sheelar at first singles and Madigan Lang at third singles led the way.
The Rams also got wins from the doubles teams of Cameron VanBuren-Evan Birkemeier, Mason Collins-Noah Kindron and Isabel Keirn-Kayla Hagen.
Akron 4, Wilson 1 1/2
Straight set wins by the singles trio of Nate Chubb, Brandon Meek and Will Chubb powered Akron to a 4-1 1/2 win at Wilson.
The Tigers also took the first doubles match with the duo of Morgan Wdowka and Eliza Papke.
Wilson took the other two doubles matches with the duos of Michel Seeley-Ben Mahar and Glynes Curcione-Sierra Shepard.
