Medina nets key win over Akron

Staying in the thick of the title race, Medina posted a 3 1/2-2 victory over host Akron this afternoon in a key Niagara-Orleans League tennis match.

Medina improves to 7-1 and stays within a match of undefeated (8-0) front-running Albion while Akron slips into third place at 6-2.

A sweep of the three doubles matches clinched the victory for the Mustangs.

Singles: Kristian Snyder (M) def. Ryan Meek 6-3, 6-2; Nathan Chubb (A) def. Tristan Sanders 6-1, 6-1; Brandon Meek (A) def. Xion Baes 6-2, 6-4.
Doubles: Mike Cardone – Kyla Leno (M) def. Jacob Meyer – Cierra Janis 6-4, 6-4; Nick Bogan – Ray Paull (M) def. Morgan Wagner – Erica Papke 6-0 6-2; Brandon Harris – Charles Beach (M) def. Dustin Earle – Cameron Brooks 6-0, 6-3.

Roy-Hart 4 1/2, Barker 1
Singles: Nick Fazzolari (B) def. Elliot Spitzer 5-7, 6-4, 6-2; Patrick Sheelar (RH) def. Andrew Jenks 6-0, 6-4; Angelina Ciarfella (RH) def. Alexander Israel 7-5, 6-4.
Doubles: Desree Taylor – Aspen Moore (RH) def. Nick Sutch – Christian Young 6-3, 5-7, 6-2; Sean O’Grady – Caleb Reith (RH) def. Marisa Jowdy – Grace Harris 6-2, 6-4; Cameron VanBuren – Mason Collins (RH) def. Natalie Bruning – Maya Gooding 6-4, 1-6, 6-1.

Holley 4, Byron-Bergen 1
A sweep of the singles matches by the trio of Brady Smith, Pablo Romero and Cameron Bennage sparked Holley to a 4-1 Genesee Region League victory over Byron-Bergen.

The Hawks also got a win from the second doubles team of Derek McArthur and Jake DeSimone.
