Medina Mustangs FC wins playoff opener

Avenging a season opening 5-0 loss, the No. 6 seed Medina Mustangs FC upended No. 3 Revolution FC 2-0 in the quarterfinal round of the Buffalo District Soccer League Championship Division playoffs Sunday afternoon at Nichols.
Breaking away from a 0-0 deadlock, Medina FC scored two unanswered goals in the second half to earn the win and advance to next Sunday’s semifinal against top seeded Buffalo Italia.
Peter Martilotta scored both goals, his 6th and 7th of the season, off assists from Aiden Prince and Cole Callard.
Anchoring the defense for Medina FC was Tyler Ribbeck who earned the shutout in goal.
Medina FC improves to 5-4-2 while Revolution FC ends the season at 7-4.
The Mustangs in fact have gone 5-1-2 over the last 8 games after an 0-3 start to the season when the team was playing shorthanded.
Medina FC played to a 2-2 tie with Buffalo Italia in the regular season finale.
Regular season champion Buffalo Italia brings a 9-0-1 record into the semifinal round..
