Medina Mustangs FC moves up division
Capturing the Buffalo District Soccer League 3rd Division playoff championship last summer has earned the Medina Mustangs FC a promotion.
Getting set for their seventh year of competition, the Mustangs FC will now by competing in the Buffalo District Soccer League’s 2nd Division this season.
The Mustangs FC earned the advancement by winning the 3rd Division playoff title by defeating LA United 3-1 in the semifinals and Ukraine 2-1 in the finals.
Interestingly, both Ukraine and LA United have also both been promoted to the 2nd Division.
The Mustangs FC finished last season with a flurry winning 9 of their last 10 games. The only setback during that stretch was a late season 4-1 loss to Ukraine. Overall the team finished with a 10-2-1 overall record.
A large veteran contingent will lead Medina into the new 2nd Division competition including Greg Husung, Barry Rogenmoser, Steven Anderson, Ethan Leonard, Colm Cooper, Aaron Feltz, Nate Dillenbeck, Casey Winiecki, Alex Allis, Coby Albone, Tyler Ribbeck. Peter Martillotta, Kristian Snyder, Elian Gonzalez, Connor Gunby, Ryan Larudda and Mateo May. Rounding out the roster are Trenton Jones, Jack Whipple, Trent Choate, Kyan Mathieu and Aiden Prince.
Dillenbeck is the team’s all time goal scoring leader with 26 as Snyder (18), Anderson (16), Husung (15) and Leonard (15) round out the top five.
Husung is the team’s assist leader with 34 as Leonard (19), Rogenmoser (12), Anderson (11) and Jessie Fergen (9) complete the top five.
The Mustangs FC will begin 2nd Division competition in early May. The schedule has not yet been released.
