Medina Mustangs 17U splits diamond twin bill

The Medina Mustangs 17U baseball team split with Fairport in a non league doubleheader at Vets Park on Friday evening.

Medina won the first game 4-2 while Fairport took the nightcap 10-4.

Medina 4, Fairport 2
Trailing 2-0, Medina rallied into the lead for good by scoring three times in the third inning on RBI doubles by Carter Woodworth and JJ Prynn and a steal of home by Prynn. A single by Vinny Gray ignited the rally.

The Mustangs added an insurance run in the sixth inning on a groundout off the bat of winning pitcher Lukas Grimes which drove home Prynn who had reached on a single.

Grimes went the distance on the mound scattering 5 hits and striking out 7.

Fairport 10, Medina 4
Breaking away from a scoreless deadlock, Fairport moved on top to stay by scoring four runs in the third inning on 2 walks, 2 singles, a sacrifice fly and a double.

Medina did close the gap to 4-2 in the fifth inning on an error and an RBI single by Colton Smith but the Mustangs would get no closer. The rally also featured singles by Brady Christiaansen and Grimes and a double by Jimmy Dieter.

Fairport locked up the win with two runs in the fifth and four more in the sixth.

Medina added one run in the sixth on an RBI single by Ryleigh Culver, which followed a double by Woodworth, and one in the seventh on an RBI single by Gray.

Medina will next participate in the Cheektowaga Tournament next weekend.
