Medina Mets, Pirates, Cubs and Yankees win youth baseball season openers
In season opening area youth baseball action this week the Medina Mets, Pirates, Cubs and Yankees all posted victories.
Medina Mets 12, Roy-Hart Red Sox 7
Leading the Medina Mets attack were Liam Castricone, Alex Benz, Hunter Stephens, Ryan Pegelow and Jacob Rissew all going 2-3. Castricone a triple and single, Benz double and single. Stephens,Rissew and Pegelow all had 2 singles.
Trey Skinner, Henrio Winters, Lukas Grimes and Frankie Stephens all had singles.
On the mound Grimes and Stephens both pitched great, each struck out 6 batters.
Pirates 2, Indians 1
The Pirates nipped the Indians in their Loyal Minors opener 2-1. Sawyer Lilleby and Lathan McEwin- Miller both had two hits while Aleks Seefeldt, Timmy Vasquez, Shane Fearby and Jaden Luxon each added one a piece.
Seefeldt and Vasquez both pitched well combining for 15 strikeouts.
Cubs 6, A’s 0
The Woodroe Realty Cubs defeated the VFW Post 1483 A’s, 6-0. Ethan Page led the Cubs with two doubles and two RBIs. Vinny Gray added a double and triple. Camden Fike also had two doubles. Jude Lacy contributed two singles. River Jones and Brennan Allen each had one hit. Owen Sargent reached base twice.
Fike and Allen pitched well in game.
Medina Yankees 11, Somerset Yankees 5
The Medina MTA Yankees opened the season with a win 11 – 5 against the Somerset Yankees. Brody Fry pitched 3 shutout innings and recorded 9 strikeouts.
Cole Callard also had a strong pitching debut and recorded 6 strikeouts over 3 innings.
