Medina matmen win non league match; Barker/R-H, Newfane win N-O openers

Benefitting from eight forfeit wins worth a total of 48 points, Medina rolled to a 60-22 victory over visiting St. Mary’s of Lancaster this evening in a non league match.

In two Niagara-Orleans League season opening matches, Barker/Roy-Hart defeated Akron 46-24 and Newfane downed Wilson 83-6.

Joe Velez (132) and Kalvin Packer (195) scored first period pins in times of 1:11 and :41 respectively for Medina’s only wins of the five bouts decided on the mat.

Jake Fay (138) and Tom Desiderio (170) scored pins for the undermanned St. Mary’s squad.

Barker/Roy-Hart 46, Akron 24
Tyler Choate (138), AJ Schafer (145) and Nick Fazzolari (220) all registered pins to lead Barker/Roy-Hart past visiting Akron 46-24.

Dan Wheeler (126), Ryan Ulrich (152) and Cameron Swick (170) also all scored decision wins for Barker/Roy-Hart.

Newfane 83, Wilson 6
Pins by Charlie Johnstone (132), Paul Dunbar (145), Adam Nowicki (160), Nick Gifford (170), Tyler Skidmore (182) and Chris Johnstone (220), along with a technical fall win by Jake Kubala (195), led defending champion Newfane to an 83-6 win at rival Wilson.
