Medina man charged with DWI in Corfu after truck struck by train
CORFU – A Medina man has been charged with driving while intoxicated in Genesee County after he allegedly left his pickup truck on the train tracks after it bottomed out and got stuck. A train then hit the truck at about 12:29 a.m. on Sunday. The truck wasn’t occupied when it was hit, the Genesee County Sheriff’s Office is reporting.
The Sheriff’s Office charged Brendan M. Kotarski, 27, with DWI. He and his passenger, Amber M. Fortunato, 25, of Medina, were located after the accident between the train and a 2015 GMC Sierra.
Kotarski was later identified as the operator and was administered standard field sobriety tests. He was found to allegedly be intoxicated and was charged with DWI, driving with a BAC of .08% or more, reckless driving, leaving the scene of a property damage accident and reckless endangerment 2nd.
He was released and will appear in the Village of Corfu Court on Sept. 9.
The truck was struck by a train on the railroad tracks between Depot Street and Water Street. According to the Sheriff’s Office, the driver of the GMC attempted to cross over the tracks and bottomed out coming to rest on the north railroad track. That is when a CSX freight train struck the rear of the truck, pushing it off the tracks.
