Setting up an all local title series, top seeded Medina and No. 2 Lyndonville both scored victories this evening in the semifinals of the Lockport Midget ‘A’ League playoffs.

Medina scored a 3-0 victory over visiting No. 5 Lockport 2 while Lyndonville bested No. 3 Lockport 1 by a 4-1 margin.

Connor Barleben hurled a one hit shutout with 14 strikeouts for Medina.

Barleben also singled in what proved to be the game winning run in the fourth inning to snap a scoreless deadlock. His hit drove in Jason Hellwig who had reached on a single, stole second and advanced to third on a wild pitch.

Medina added a pair of insurance runs in the fifth frame on a two run double by Cyrus MacFarland. A fielders choice play and an error set up that opportunity.

Matt Riemer and Jared Zinkievich had the only other hits for Medina.

Lockport 2’s best scoring opportunity came in the fourth frame as the visitors got runners to second and third. However, Barleben bore down to get out of the jam by notching a pair of clutch strikeouts.

Justin Edwards, who pitched the first three innings, and Chris Scroger, who went the final four frames, hurled Lyndonville to the victory.

Trailing 1-0, Lyndonville moved on top to stay by scoring three runs in the fourth inning on a hit batsman and a two-run double by Evan Milleville. Walks to Dominic DiCureia and Michael Wells and a single by Ty Hrovat loaded the bases to set up the threat.

Lyndonville added an insurance run in the fifth as DiCureia singled, stole second and came home on a single by Hrovat.

Hrovat finished with a total of three hits and Milleville two.

The best two out of three championship series is set to begin early next week.
