Looking to rebound from a 1-8-1 league, 5-11-1 overall record last fall, the Medina/Lyndonville boys varsity soccer squad returns a large veteran nucleus.

Anchoring that veteran group are senior midfielder Nate Sherman, senior defender Evan Horn, junior forward Nate Dillenbeck, junior midfielder Casey Winiecki and sophomore defender Jack Whipple.

Sherman earned first team Niagara-Orleans All-League honors while Dillenbeck, who led the Mustangs in scoring with 14 goals, and 5 assists, was a second team honoree. Horn and Whipple were both Honorable Mention selections. Sherman had 4 goals and 2 assists and Winiecki 3 goals and 4 assists.

The Mustangs also return varsity experience in senior defender Oskar Heinsler along with senior midfielders Hunter Heil, Devin Rounds and Jonathan Slingerland.

Newcomers looking to contribute include juniors Dan Mandujano (Forward), Russ Stephens (Midfield/Forward) and  AJ Seefeldt (Midfield/Forward) along with sophomores Zach Fike (Goalie) and Cole Seefeldt (Defender/Froward)

“We’ll be young but they can play,” said Coach Steve Luksch. “They are very versatile with the number of different positions they can play and the different formations we can run and versatility is the key. I’m optimistic. We’ve got a lot of new guys and they can all play. A big key will be how quick can they come together.”

The Mustangs will open the N-O season at home on September 5 against defending champion Wilson.
