Medina/Lyndonville booters win regular season finale in overtime

Rebounding quickly after giving up the tying goal in the final seconds of regulation time, Medina/Lyndonville scored the game winner just two minutes into overtime to defeat Niagara Catholic 2-1 this morning in a non league regular season ending boys soccer game at Lyndonville.

Niagara Catholic knotted the contest at 1-1 by scoring a goal with just seven seconds to go in regulation time.

However, Medina/Lyndonville answered right back as James Ianni scored his sixth goal of the season two minutes into the overtime period to give the Mustangs the victory.

Medina had grabbed a 1-0 lead when Greg Husung scored his third goal of the season with eight minutes to go in the first half off an assist from Brian Anderson.

Medina/Lyndonville finishes the regular season at 12-3-1.

Seeded No. 3, Medina/Lyndonville will next host a Section VI Class B1 quarterfinal game at 3:30 p.m. Thursday against the winner of Tuesday’s opening round game between No. 6 Alden and No. 11 Depew.
