Bolstered by a large contingent of 10 returnees, the Medina High softball team is taking aim at improving upon last year’s 5-9 Niagara-Orleans League record.

Sophomore shortstop Alisha Scroger, who earned first team N-O All-League honors last spring, heads that large group which also includes seniors Haylee Cogovan (infield/outfield), Courtney Bailey (first base), Allison Bensley (inf/of), Davina Birch (catcher) and Abi Smith (of) along with juniors Emily Kams (pitcher/utility) and Nicole Cooper (pitcher/inf), sophomore Destiny Satkowski (inf/of) and freshman Ryenn Oliver (pitcher). Kams, Satkowski and Bensley all earned All-League honorable mention.

“To have that much youth with experience is fantastic,” said Coach Amber Cleaveland.

The Mustangs will tuneup for the season by traveling to the Disney World diamond complex in Florida over the Easter break to play seven scrimmages against teams from New Jersey, Connecticut and New York.

“It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity and with this young group we have the perfect crew to do it,” said Cleaveland.

Upon returning, the Mustangs have three non league games scheduled beginning at Lyndonville on April 1 before opening the N-O season at Newfane on April 8.
