Medina harriers win opener

Albion boys split

Medina defeated host CSAT 24-34 this afternoon in the Niagara-Orleans League boys cross-country opener.

Dalton Cerbone won the race for Medina in a time of 20:20 as Austin Heil finished third and Ryan Leffler fifth.

The Albion boys gained a split in the opener defeating Wilson 25-31 but losing to Akron 26-29. Akron also defeated Wilson 24-32.

Aaron Chen in fourth place was Albion’s top finisher as Akron’s Derrick Edgar won the race.

The defending champion Barker boys scored a sweep defeating Roy-Hart 15-50 and Newfane 18-43. Newfane also downed Roy-Hart 18-38.

Barker’s Sergio Cruz won the race in 17:27 as his teammate Brice Moeller placed second.

In the girls competition, CSAT defeated Medina 15-50. Medina’s Holly Heil won the race in 24:19.

Akron defeated Albion and Wilson by the identical score of 15-45. Wilson also nipped Albion 29-30. Albion’s Meredith Patterson placed first.

The Newfane girls defeated Barker 20-38 and Roy-Hart 19-40. Barker downed Roy-Hart 26-33.

Newfane was led by the 1-2 finish of Kelly and Kate Bochnewetch.
