Medina harriers have new coach

With new coach Eric Gross at the helm, the Medina High cross-country squad is getting set for the upcoming Niagara-Orleans League season.

Sophomore Holly Heil, who placed second at the N-O All-League meet and fourth in the Section VI Class C race last fall heads the Medina squad.

The Mustangs lineup also includes seniors Dalton Cerbone, Patrick Roberts and Michael Gates; juniors Austin Heil, Matthew Roberts, John Miller, Ryan Leffler and eighth grader Daniel Heil. Cebone is from Lyndonville as this is the first year Medina and Lyndonville have merged for cross-country.

“They are a good group of kids and they’re fun to work with,” said Gross. “They work hard and will do anything asked of them.”

The Mustangs tuned up for the N-O season by participating iin the West Seneca Invitational on Saturday. Holly Heil placed ninth in the girls small schools division and Cerbone 11th in the boys division.

Medina opens the N-O season at CSAT on Sept. 24. The Mustangs then visit Albion on Oct. 1, Akron on Oct. 8 and host Roy-Hart and Wilson on Oct. 15.
