Medina grapplers nip Wilson on criteria decision; Albion edges past Roy-Hart/Barker
A win in the final bout earned Medina a narrow criteria decision victory over visiting Wilson this evening in a Niagara-Orleans League wrestling match.
Spencer Rotoli (285) earned a 10-0 major decision win in the final bout pulling Medina into a 40-40 tie. The win was the eighth of the evening for Medina against just seven for Wilson earning the Mustangs the criteria decision victory.
Medina had built up a seven point, 29-22, advantage at one point after pins by Rashawn Bloom (106) in just nine seconds, Travis Wiseman (113) in 3:31, Colby Petrie (126) in 1:42 and Da’Ron Bellan (138) in 2:29 followed by a technical fall 20-5 victory by Joe Gates (152).
A decision win by Jeremiah Wiseman (170) and a major decision win by Elijah Sones (195) then off set Wilson pins by Drew Westmoreland (160) in 3:15 and Aaron Welch (182) in 2:25 to keep Medina up 36-34 with just two bouts remaining.
Wilson regained a 40-36 lead after a pin by Matt Lange (220) in 53 seconds.
However, the Mustangs answered back with the clutch major decision win by Rotoli to retie the contest at 40-40 earning Medina its eighth bout of the night and the criteria victory.
Luke Atlas (99) and Ben Wolfe (145) also both had pins and Jacob Sanborn (132) a major decision win for Wilson.
Both teams are now 1-1 in N-O competition.
Albion 42, Roy-Hart/Barker 39
Pins by Cody Wilson (285) and Preston Flugel (145) along with an overtime decision win by Jessy Cruz (170) helped Albion edged past Roy-Hart/Barker in an N-O match at Barker.
Roy-Hart got pins from Colby Hancock (138), Andrew Schafer (152), Tyler Choate (160), Aiden Haley (182), Brett Rickard (106) and Trent Choate (113).
Albion is now 1-1 and Roy-Hart/Barker 0-2.
Newfane 45, Akron 27
A pin by Julian Nixon, along with wins by Andy Lucinski and Caleb Aurenhamer, helped key defending champion Newfane to a 45-27 victory over Akron.
Newfane is now 2-0 and Akron 1-1.
Byron-Bergen 74, Lyndonville 6
Six forfeits helped Byron-Bergen post a 74-6 win over visiting Lyndonville in a Genesee Region League match.
