Medina girls win cross-country opener
A sweep of the top three finishing spots earned the Medina girls squad a 23-33 victory over host Wilson this afternoon in a season opening Niagara-Orleans League cross-country meet.
Sabrina Quiros finished first for Medina in a time of 23:03 as Corinne Hill took second and Rebecca Lunden third.
Wilson won the boys meet 15-48 as William Schwarzmueller finished first for the Lakemen.
In a boys tri-meet at Akron, Barker defeated Akron 21-36 and Albion 15-50. Akron also bested Albion 15-50.
Barker’s Peter DiLorenzo won the race in 17:56. The Raiders also had Nick Gueriun place fourth and Dominic Clementi fifth.
Akron’s Casey Zuba placed second and Albion’s Reuben Rivers third.
In the girls tri-meet, Akron defeated Barker 25-30 and Albion 24-31. Barker also downed Albion 24-31.
Akron was led by the 2-3-4 finish of Lauren Wagner, Maddy Jimerson and Kaia Sczcygielski.
Albion’s Alanna Holman won the race in 20:28 while Barker’s Gabby Baker placed fifth.
In the other boys opener, Newfane defeated Roy-Hart 18-45 as Robert Stevenson finished first (18:01), Austin Burkard second, Alan Lingle fourth and Nick Bues fifth. Roy-Hart’s Ozzy Moore placed third.
In the girls race, Newfane topped Roy-Hart 19-44 as Kim Goerss took first in 20:26. The Lady Panthers also had a 3-4-5 finish from the trio of Cat Ersing, Lydia Chunco and Marina Ersing.
Roy-Hart’s Anna Rickard placed second.
