Medina literally walked home with a victory to open the Section VI Class B2 playoffs this afternoon as the No. 3 seeded Mustangs outlasted No. 6 Southwestern 5-4 on a bases loaded walk in the 10th inning at Albion.

Cora Payne drew the decisive walk to force in Ashlee Howell with the game winner in the bottom of the 10th after two other walks had loaded the bases.

Medina’s Ashlee Howell celebrates scoring the winning run for the Mustangs in the 10th inning.

Medina had jumped out to an early 4-0 lead after scoring once in the first on a single by Alisha Scroger, twice in the third on a fielders choice play and a bases loaded walk and once in the fourth on another RBI single by Scroger.  A double by Howell, a walk and a bunt single by winning pitcher Emily Kams had loaded the bases to set up the third inning threat.

However, Medina could not score until the 10th inning as the Mustangs left runners stranded at first and third in the fifth, at third in the sixth, at second and third in the seventh and at first and second in both the eighth and ninth innings.

Southwestern rebounded from the early 4-0 deficit to knot the contest by scoring three times in the fifth highlighted by an RBI double by pitcher Sydney Burk and once in the sixth.

Kams though blanked the Lady Trojans over the final four frames on no hits as she registered 6 of her 14 strikeouts during that stretch.

Improving to 11-4, Medina will next visit No. 2 Fredonia in the semifinals next Tuesday. Fredonia defeated No. 10 Wilson 12-1.

Roy-Hart 2, Akron 1

Avenging a pair of regular season losses, No. 4 Roy-Hart had a similar finish as the Lady Rams nipped No. 5 Akron 2-1 in another B2 quarterfinal as a bases loaded walk  to Kayla Brown in the fifth inning plated what proved to be the winning run.

A single by Delaney Draper, a bunt single by Emily Metz, a sacrifice by Ashley Hill and a bunt single by Maddie Fry loaded the bases to set up the opportunity.

Roy-Hart’s other run came in the fourth on a bunt single by Lexi Lovewell and an error.

Sam Choate picked up the win in the circle for Roy-hart allowing 4 hits and striking out 2.

Mattie Klein gave up 5 hits and struck out 3 for Akron.

Roy-Hart next visits top seeded Eden in the semifinals next Tuesday. Eden blanked Gowanda 7-0.

Portville 18, Barker 0

Exploding for 11 runs in the first inning, top seeded Portville went on to defeat visiting No. 8 Barker 18-0 in the Class C1 quarterfinals.
