Medina girls rally past Akron; CSAT nips Albion

Putting together a big second half rally, Medina defeated host Akron 49-29 this evening to regain the .500 mark at 3-3 in Niagara-Orleans League girls basketball competition.

Trailing 22-19 at the half, Medina used a 12-4 third period scoring edge to rally into the lead for good.

Maddie Williams scored 5 points and four other players each added a bucket during that Mustangs surge.

The Mustangs then closed out the victory by outscoring the Lady Tigers 18-3 in the final stanza. Maddie Winters lead that uprising with 10 points.

Winters finished with a total of 14, Molly Gross 12, Je’ne Brown 9, Williams 8 and Holly Heil 6. Winters and Gross also each grabbed off 10 rebounds and Brown 7.

Ashley Mietz scored 10 for Akron, which slips to 0-6.

CSAT 42, Albion 41
CSAT scored a last second basket to nip host Albion 42-41 and improve to 3-3 in N-O action.

Albion, which slips to 3-3, rallied into a 41-40 lead on a three by Emily Blanchard with seven seconds remaining.

However, CSAT, answered right back with the game winning basket by Kiara King with only three seconds to go.

King finished with a total of 11 points and Chelsea Carrier 10 for CSAT.

Chanyce Powell scored 10, Blanchard and Sierra Newton 8, Nicole Eldred 7 and Natalie DiCureia and Caitlynn Snook 4 each for Albion which led 32-29 after three-quarters.

CSAT led 22-18 at the half.
