Medina girls post win over Akron

Photo by Cheryl Wertman – Maddie Williams helped lead Medina to a 47-36 win over visiting Akron this evening by scoring a game high 18 points.

Improving to 4-2, Medina bested visiting Akron (3-3) 47-36 this evening in a Niagara-Orleans League game.

Maddie Williams scored 18 and Tyesha Robinson 12 to lead the way for Medina as Camri King netted 8, Kharise Johnson 5 and Sarah Cochrane and Anya Bloom 2 each.

Darion Jonathan scored 12, Jessee Jonathan 9, Jayni Sundown 7, Helena Hill 5 and Elise Leeds 3 for Akron.

Medina jumped out to a 15-9 first period lead as Williams scored 11, including a pair of threes.

The Mustangs maintained leads of 21-11 at the half and 36-32 at the three-quarter mark.

King tallied 7 and Williams and Robinson 4 each in the third period.

Robinson then added 6 in the final stanza to help lock up the win as the Mustangs outpointed the Lady Tigers 11-4 down the stretch.

Newfane 37, Barker 35
A basket by Madalyn Traverse with just seven seconds to go earned Newfane (2-3) a narrow 37-35 win over Barker (0-5).

Gabby Baker led Barker with 9 and Rachel Chunco had 7 for Newfane.

Wilson 46, Roy-Hart 42

Wilson ((7-0) put together a 13-6 closing run to earn a narrow 46-42 win at Roy-Hart (0-6).

Sarah Lewis scored 6 of her 12 points and Skylar Munnikhuysen 4 of her 13 to lead that late surge for Wilson which also got 10 on the night from Anna Frerichs.

Ashley Hill scored 13, Meghan Washington 12 and Shelby Wolf 10 for Roy-Hart.

Olmsted 54, Albion 49

Brylie Hapeman scored 13, Lexi Wolck 11, Kirsten Struble 10 and Paige Derisley 9 for Albion in the narrow 54-49 nn league loss to visiting Olmsted.

Byron-Bergen 50, Lyndonville 39

Leading by a narrow 28-25 margin at the half, Byron-Bergen used a big 18-4 third period scoring surge to key a 50-39 win over visiting Lyndonville in a Genesee Region League game.

Alecia Hinkson led Lyndonville with 18 points as Stacy Buckland, Anna Lewis and Savannah Poler each added 5. Hinkson also grabbed off 10 rebounds.

Notre Dame 49, Holley 34

Callie McCulley scored 16 and Angelia McCulley 11 to lead Notre Dame to a 49-34 G-R win over visiting Holley.

Olivia Radford scored 12, Madison Marsh 8, Sarah Klatt 6 and Julia Smith and Halee Passarell 4 each for Holley.

In another G-R contest, Pembroke downed Kendall 43-18.
