Medina girls edge past rival Albion

In a sea-saw battle Medina trimmed visiting rival Albion 48-45 this evening in the Niagara-Orleans League girls basketball opener.

Albion jumped out to a 12-7 first quarter lead as Emily Blanchard tallied 8 points including a pair of threes.

However, Medina answered back with an 18-11 second period scoring edge to rally into a 25-23 lead at the half. Je’ne Brown scored 7 and Maddy Williams 6 to lead that Mustangs rally.

The Purple Eagles though regained a slender 34-33 lead at the three-quarter mark as Chanyce Powell and Blanchard both tallied 4 points to lead the 11-8 scoring edge.

Once again though Medina battled back, this time with a 15-1 scoring edge down the stretch to earn the win.

Brown tallied 6 and Kams 5, including three clutch late free throws, to lead that late Mustangs surge which also included a key late rebound by Gross to help seal the narrow win.

Brown finished with 15 points, Kams 10, Williams 9, Gross and Kayla Cuadra 6 and Maddy Winters 2. Brown also had 10 rebounds and 6 blocks and Williams 6 assists and 5 steals.

Powell and Blanchard both scored 12 for Albion as Janae Doty added 7, Sierra Chudy 6, Elisabeth Baker 4 and Caitlynn Snook and Kendall Eibl 2 each.

Newfane 63, Roy-Hart 30
Building up a 33-15 half-time advantage, Newfane went on to defeat Roy-Hart 63-30 in another N-O contest.

Paige Emborsky scored 22 and Emily Foltz 14 to lead the way for the Lady Panthers.

Skyler Christopher scored 10 and Ellie Todd 8 for Roy-Hart.

Wilson 66, Akron 55

Defending champion Wilson improved to 2-0 by downing Akron (1-1) 66-55 as Rachel Senek scored 21, Shea Munnikhuysen 16 and Kayla Neumann 11.
