Medina freshman wins sectional golf title

Medina High freshman Melanie Green captured top honors at the Section VI golf championships held today at Tan Tara Country Club.

Green fired an 18 hole round of 76 to capture the championship by three strokes. She birdied the 17th hole to help lock up the title.

Green will now head the Section VI team at the state championships which will be held at Bethpage, Long Island June 1-4.

N-O Track
The annual Niagara-Orleans All-League track meet got underway this afternoon at Akron.

Albion had a pair of winners in the Triple Jump in Chanyce Powell  (37-0) and Tre Yaskulski (42-8).

Medina’s Martha Gardner won the 800 (2:25.43).

Newfane had Kim Goerss win the 3000 (11:29.45), Sam Auernhamer the 3200 (10:06.64) and Jacob Licht the Discus (122-11).

Akron had Amanda Swader win the Discus (98-10) and Jenna Robnett the Pole Vault (7-5).

Wilson’s Trey Rees won the 800 (1:57.91).

N-O Tennis
Medina, Albion and Barker scored quarterfinal round wins at the annual N-O League Doubles Tournament held at Barker.

Medina’s duo of Mike Cardone and Andrew Fuller outlasted the Roy-Hart duo of Patrick Sheelar and Madigan Lang 6-0, 4-6, 6-4.

G-R Tennis
Wheatland-Chili blanked Holley 5-0 today in a regular season ending Genesee Region League tennis match. The Hawks finish the season at 7-6.
