Medina field hockey team preps for season under new coach
With new Coach Amber Cleaveland at the helm, the Medina High varsity field hockey team is preparing for the September 3 Niagara-Orleans League opener at Wilson.
Cleaveland, who takes over the coaching reins from long time Mustangs mentor Kristi Young, has a good returning nucleus of players including seniors Hallie Seaman (goalie), Dominique Hughes (attack), Addison Zavitz (defense), Anna Blount (attack), Bailey Allen (attack), Chantelle Kidney (attack) along with juniors Stella Russo (attack), Hannah Lonnen (defense) and Michaela Cardone (attack). The team’s senior group also includes Chelsea Vercruysse.
“I expect a lot of growth this year with several new and young players coming out,” said Cleaveland who coached the JV squad last year.” The seniors will show leadership and I look forward to what they are going bring out in the program. I am also looking forward to working with a new JV coach, Samantha Greenwald, who brings experience, and coaching practice to build the program from here.”
Medina went 2-10 in N-O competition last year.
