Medina field hockey has solid nucleus

Looking to build on last fall’s 8-4 record, Medina has s good nucleus of 10 returnees with which to challenge for top Niagara-Orleans League field hockey honors.

First team N-O All-League and All Western New York squad honorees senior Iyla Lilleby and sophomore Penelope Schalck head Medina’s veteran contingent. Lilleby scored 24 goals last season and Schalck 14.

The Mustangs also return seniors Baileigh McAdoo, Adeline Castricone, Taylor Frentz, Addison Taylor and Arianna Bloom along with junior Sophia Goyette and sophomores Sophia Castricone and Emiliana Batista. Bloom, the Mustangs goalie, earned second team N-O All-League honors while Adeline Castricone and McAdoo were both Honorable Mention selections.

“I’m super optimistic,” said Coach Amber Cleaveland. “Our key players are returning and we’ve really changed the culture in a very positive way and the girls are really buying in.”

Medina will open the N-O season at Roy-Hart on September 8.
