Medina FC to face Ukraine for playoff title
Seeded No. 3, the Medina Mustangs FC will take on top seeded Ukraine in the Buffalo District Soccer League 3rd Division playoff championship game at 3 p.m. Sunday at Sahlen’s Sports Park.
Medina FC, which has won 8 of its last 9 games, brings a 9-2-1 record into the title contest. The lone setback during that long streak was a late season 4-1 loss to Ukraine which is 9-1-1 0n the season.
Medina FC advanced to the finals by defeating Buffalo Night 5-3 in the quarterfinals and LA United 3-1 in the semifinals.
Ukraine, which drew a bye in the first round, downed JL Dutch 3-0 in the semifinals.
Medina’s leading goal scorers on the season have been Peter Martillotta with 9, Nate Dillenbeck 8, Steven Anderson 5 and Greg Husung 4. Husung also has a team leading 8 assists.
