Medina FC faces road semifinal test
Seeded No. 3 the Medina Mustangs FC will visit No. 2 LA United in the semifinals of the Buffalo District Soccer League Division 3 playoffs at 6 p.m. Sunday.
Medina, which brings an 8-2-1 record into the semis, played to a 1-1 tie during the regular season against LA United which is 7-1-2.
The winner advances to the August 13 championship game against the winner of Sunday’s other semifinal between No. 1 Ukraine (8-1-1) and No. 5 JL Dutch (6-3-2).
Offensively Medina has been led this season by Peter Martillotta (9 goals), Nate Dillenbeck (8 goals), Steven Andreson (4 goals) and Greg Husung (4 goals). Hunsung also leads the team in assists with 8.
Medina has won 7 of its last 8 games after a 1-1-1 start to the season. That lone setback was a late season 4-1 loss to Ukraine.
