Medina FC captures playoff championship

Avenging a late regular season loss, the third seeded Medina Mustangs FC defeated top seeded Ukraine 2-1 in the Buffalo District Soccer League 3rd Division playoff championship game this afternoon at Sahlen’s Sports Park.
Ethan Leonard gave Medina a quick 1-0 lead when he scored his third goal of the season in the first five minutes off an assist from Nate Dillenbeck.
Dillenbeck later scored what proved to be the game winner with about 10 minutes to go in the second half off a corner by Greg Husung giving the Mustangs a 2-0 lead. The goal was the ninth of the season for Dillenbeck who earned MVP honors by being named Man of the Match.
Tyler Ribbeck, who made several big saves in goal, anchored the Mustangs defense,
The win was the ninth in the last 10 games for the Mustangs whose lone setback during that stretch was a 4-1 loss to Ukraine.
The Mustangs advanced to the title contest by defeating Buffalo Night 5-3 in the quarterfinals and LA United 3-1 in the semifinals.
Medina finishes the season at 10-2-1 and Ukraine at 9-2-1.
